The Magic City
Southeastern Ohio was once a hub for extractive industries, building and supporting a massive economy rooted in timber, clay and coal mining. After nearly 150 years, these industries moved out in the 1960's after stripping the region of its resources. 50 years later, the town of Glouster, Ohio is a shadow of its former self. What's left behind is a culture of poverty and addiction–both alcohol abuse and narcotics run rampant in Glouster, where the lack of opportunity leaves a per capita income of only $12,000 per year and a 13.6% unemployment rate, 5% higher than the national average.
